Project Story
The client had already been selling anti-vibration pads but wanted to improve both their vibration-damping performance and their appearance.
Anti-vibration pads are used for washing machines to prevent shifting. Sometimes they are placed in kitchens and must be aesthetic and fit into different interiors — neutral and stylish.
But in addition to the design, we also needed to improve the performance of the existing (already very effective) pads by 15%!
The Process
We developed several design concepts and, based on them, created a model for engineering calculations.
In parallel with the design work, we measured vibrations using our own accelerometer-based sensor to understand the real loads in different washing modes.
Using the collected data, we built a dynamic model of the system, calculated the resonance frequencies, and optimized the elasticity and damping parameters.
The Process
Next, we developed several structural variants and carried out a series of calculations and simulations. As a result, we arrived at a version that reduces vibration levels by approximately 15% compared to the original solution.
The Design
We combined the engineering data with the design and refined the prioritized concept. We always validate the design with physical mock-ups — you need to evaluate it by hand, as renders don’t always reflect how the product actually looks. After 3D printing the prototypes, we adjusted the size and the surface patterns. We refined the CMF to achieve a “gadget-like” feel and to express vibration damping through the shape.
The Technology
Together with HARZ Labs, we produced test molds using 3D-printed forming surfaces, after which we manufactured prototypes from real materials and confirmed the model’s effectiveness through testing.
The result is a design that improves the stability of washing machines, simplifies manufacturing, and delivers a distinctive industrial aesthetic that enhances the perceived quality of the product for end users. Aesthetics and functionality have become equally important factors in the purchase decision.
